Allllll aaaaaaaaaboard

So, link after link after link Rob read about the benefits of having a service animal for an autistic child...and he is now ON BOARD!!!His only thing was he is not comfortable getting a large dog from a shelter, so he wants to start w/ a puppy. I was hoping to avoid housebreaking and puppyhood, but oh well it's a small price to pay! We are going Saturday to check out 2 different breaders, and w/ any luck we'll come home w/ our new service dog to be!

Puppies are cool. Honestly, I originally got a dog and wanted a pup but instead I adopted a 5 year old German Shepherd/Rottie mix. She died last year but she was my best friend for years. It was actually better because she was extremely tolerant towards children, she was all trained, and she was totally housebroken. I adopted her when I was 21, my sister was still pregnant with my godson, and she did fabulously well with him. She passed a few months after my second nephew was a year old but she did well with him too. She even would lay under his bouncer so his feet would land on her head. I'm not trying to plug older dogs but just point out that sometimes that arrangment does work out.

Congratulations! I've thought very seriously about a service dog for my son, Hayden. Let us know how it works out.
